By Igor Markov
I bought this projector as a replacement for a very old 720p model in my living room. It arrived in a couple of days, and I have used it for a month with a new Blue Ray player (through a long HDMI cord) connected to a ten-year-old Bose sound system by an optical sound cable. The projector now sits on the floor in a near-central location, and the image on the wall is seemingly undistorted (even w/o deliberate correction). In addition to supporting Blue Ray resolution, Optoma TH1020 is fairly quiet while projecting a brighter and sharper image. I didn't expect the image to be so much larger -- it's almost too big for my living room, but provides a more convincing, immersive theatrical experience. One odd feature is that the fan sometimes gets loud for a few seconds when the projector is turned off (apparently, to quickly cool off the lens). All other projectors I checked were either lacking in quality (resolution, brightness, contrast) or were too bulky or significantly more expensive. In particular, note that contrast ratios can be reported in different ways and may be difficult to compare.
