4My First Projector
By Page
On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the best)Picture Quality - 7Audio - 1 (need to hook up to a receiver, then audio is a 10)Noise the projector makes - 5Ease of use/setup - 8I purchased this projector a few months ago. I have it set up in my basement, w/ low lighting. I originally purchased the 720p model, but you were able to notice the pixels easily. I upgraded to this and you can really see the difference. Black Ops 2 on 360 is outstanding on this, I almost feel like I'm cheating due to the size of the screen. You can still see pixels when there is font on the screen (ie - loading screens), but that really is the only time you can see the pixels. Blueray movies are perfect. I have this projector hooked up via HDMI port on my Yamaha receiver and have my other devices hooked into this receiver via HDMI. I find that I need to adjust the picture once in awhile, but I think this is due to my cats hitting the cords. I purchased a ceiling mount for this, it was cheap and works great. Rather than buying a screen for this, I made a screen out of some 2x1's and white blackout cloth. Also added a black border made from the same wood w/ black felt covering it. The screen was around 110". A friend of mine ended up buying this same projector after watching mine a few times. I ended up giving him the screen and made a new screen by painting the back wall of my basement with white paint mixed with fine blasting chips (the stuff you use for sand blasting). The screen I have now is 7.5' tall by 12' wide. I must say the first screen I made seemed to reflect light more effectively. Although, I only applied about 3 layers of paint, it could use about 3 more. Anyway, I'm done rambling. I hope this helped in some way. Let me know if you have any questions. I'll do my best to answer them.

3ViewSonic PJD6243
By paul getty
Our reliable and well-used Infocus LP650 finally died and we did a thorough review of all current projectors initially settling on the ViewSonic PJD6243 due to: 1) brightness 2) price 3) HDMI 4)low ambient noise level 5) long bulb life 6) availability of an "eco" mode that did not seem to diminish overall brightness very much. Upon receiving the unit and setting it up in our conference room, we found that it was clearly louder than the old LP650 even though the advertised noise specs were more favorable. We tried the "green" eco mode to see if the fan noise would subside, but heard no appreciable difference in the volume. On the plus side, the projector was brighter and clearer and produced a larger image - but the extra noise was a deal killer for us since we also do speakerphone conference calls in the same room and the fan noise was loud enough to be picked up by our phone speakers. We know that this newer DLP technology runs hotter than the older generation stuff, so we expected some more noise as a result. This unit, with its small size, appears to require more air volume to keep it cool and the acoustic design was just not adequate to keep it quiet enough for us. We have ordered another brand (BenQ MW712) which is more expensive but with better noise specs and hope that it delivers. If you have a larger conference room or plan to use this in a noisier environment like a classroom, it would be a good choice.

1Native resolution is 640x480 (!)
By Guy Cohen
I bought this product because it claimed to have a native resolution of 1080p. At the time it was new and no reviews were available. Now, if you don't know what native resolution (as opposed to input/maximum resolution) means, I recommend you read this before purchasing any projector: [...]Upon installing the projector, I immediately noticed that the pixel count was very low despite the fact the input resolution was 1080p (from a roku 2 XD, using a brand new 6' HDMI cable). I also tried this with two laptops and a smartphone using a variety of cables (HDMI, VGA and micro HDMI to HDMI). In all cases, the displayed resolution was very low and at high input resolutions text was unreadable, for instance. By the way, it is also not very bright, the colors are washed out, the fan is extremely noisy and the internal speaker is terrible. The projected screen is bigger than I'm used to, so just to make sure I pulled out a tape measure and carefully counted the pixels/inch in the vertical direction, then multiplied by the total vertical size in inches. This gave me 480 pixels to within about 1%-2%. So, this projector which boasts a 1080p native resolution, actually gave me only a measly 640x480!The manual, unlike the advertisements, strangely does not mention the projector's native resolution anywhere. However, in the "Troubleshooting" appendix under "The image is too big or too small", it says "Please keep setting of computer output signal and projector's consistent. We suggest that you set resolution and frequency to 640x480 and 60Hz". So it seems to me like whoever wrote the manual knew what the real resolution is.The native resolution should really be independent of anything you might do (input something else and it will scale up or down, but the projected pixel count will remain the same), but I nevertheless contacted Pyle's technical support by e-mail. They ignored me for two weeks, so I called by phone. When I explained things to the technical support representative, he proceeded to blame my cable (it's not a "high quality" HDMI cable), my roku (it's very "small", and not all roku models support 1080p) and even the distance at which the device was set up from the wall (!).I patiently explained that any HDMI cable at this length should be fine, that my particular roku model does support 1080p output, that I was also using laptops (he immediately claimed "they don't have as many settings as Blu-ray players", but our laptops had all the necessary settings), etc. He finally claimed that my measurements were meaningless because resolution could only be measured at a specific distance from the wall mentioned in the manual (seriously). I even tried that, at this point just to be polite. After a conversation that took the better part of an hour, he asked me to mail in the device so they could check it in their lab. I considered this, but figured they'd just mail it back and claim it's my fault again. I returned the projector and got an Epson EX7210, which promises only 720p but actually delivers on its promises. The Epson is by far superior in colors/brightness/speaker/controls/noise level and probably a few other things, and worth the extra cost in my opinion. Needless to say, it delivers HD video with precisely the same setup the Pyle representative blamed for the low resolution of their projector.I cannot be sure whether this is a scam or an honest mistake, but even if the second case is true I find their behavior unacceptable. From other reviews that have since appeared, I see that I'm not the only one who has noticed the low resolution issue, so this is certainly not an isolated incident. Personally, I will not be buying from this company again.

1Stopped working after 3 months - Do not buy!
By Patricia Letke
Remodeled my basement and my son wanted a projector, so we bought this one. Picture quality was fair - not great, not crisp. But my biggest dissapointmnet is that after 3 months of use...It will not work! Just one day, the bulb would not light/project. I would NOT buy it again or recommend this one. Now I have a system built around a projector that will not project....and a son who is very unhappy!

5Not A Bad Little Projector...
By SeasickZombie
Pros:Easy to set upInexpensiveDecent Quality PictureGood First ProjectorCons:Low Native ResolutionUser Manual Leaves Much To Be DesiredP.S. Although it is a decent projector for the value, my particular projector had issues and eventually needed to be returned. I'm sure this is not an issue with all projectors, but after a few minutes of play a black blob would slowly form in the center of the image. At first I thought it was due to overheating, but even after shutting the machine off and increasing air circulation, the blob only grew until it was roughly the size of a table. For $250 without any defects it would be a great buy.

3Very loud fan
By Stephen Cooper
I bought this to serve as my tv in my living room. The picture is exceptionally bright and sharp, we can watch tv without dimming the room. However the fan is surprisingly loud, especially since LED projectors are supposed to run cool.I would give this projector five stars if it weren't so loud. I'll probably keep it and see if I can replace the fan with something quieter.Note that focus is manual, not automatic, but with it ceiling mounted I don't care after the initial setting.

5All-purpose projections
By Nippy2522
I've used this projector for everything from viewing movies, to displaying TV, to putting up slide shows, to running presentations, to just about everything you can use a projector for. So far I haven't found anything that didn't look great from this product. It has excellent resolution for such an inexpensive device, and with all the places I've taken it, it has lasted so well. So I guess you can call it durable, too. I would swear by it.

4Basic images in hi-res
By Moody2513
I don't need this for anything fancy or complex, or even highly detailed. I just need it for a basic power point with basic images and charts. This projector takes those basic things, and makes them look even more professional with just its awesome resolution and contrast. There is no mistaking anything that is displayed by it. I would gladly buy another one if the need arose, and definitely recommend it to everyone.

3Be careful what you're buying it for...
By Taero
If you buy this to simply display from your pc as a general projector then everything's all well and good, it will connect VGA -> VGA no problem. However if like me you bought this for its ability to connect as it says to Wii, Playstation and XBOX then you may hit a bit of a snag. The Wii is fine, since it runs from composite cables, the standards are there. I can't speak for the XBOX as I don't have one however I was planning on using this both for work and for hooking up my PS3. I feel it's somewhat my fault for not reading in to this more and visiting specialist sites but I went mostly on the page blurb. It states that it's compatible up to 1080p, even if it's not native (should have been my first hint), and couple that with it saying it's good for playstion made me instantly think "oh it must mean ps3" after all what consoles would even need it to go that high if not PS3 and 360?I also saw that you can get HDMI (PS3 connection) to VGA (projector connection) cables and the one I viewed on Amazon stated: "This HDMI to VGA HD15 (Male) connects your HDMI-equipped device, HDTV (NOT FROM COMPUTER OR LAPTOP) to your monitor. The HDMI-equipped devices include high-definition DVD player, HDTV receiver, projector, A/V receiver, Playstation system. The cable supports high-definition resolutions up to 1080p"Excellent I thought, I just need to plug the HDMI into my PS3 and the VGA into the projector, it supports up to 1080p and I'll just use my optical out into my speaker system for the sound, fantastic. No. Turns out after reading the reviews panning the cable that HDMI from the PS3 is digital and VGA is an analogue signal, meaning that it cannot physically be transmitted from the PS3 to the projector (seen a few sites with people who have bought this complaining about the same thing) without passing through a converter box, the cheapest being $40 and of dubious quality and going up to $200. For that I can just buy the GT720. Native 1080p, HDMI connector for the PS3 etc.Saying that I've returned the projector for a refund and will most likely rebuy the higher range one, three stars for the build quality, nice included backpack, the fact that it will be fine if you just have the Wii or a dvd player and it lost two stars for being a literal mindboggle of an information page, looking like it was fit for purpose when reading between the lines and a number of different forums makes it apparent that when they say "playstation" and "XBOX" they really mean that literally as in first gen or PS2 at the most due to their use of scart.tldr: Don't get if you want to show blu-ray or PS3/XBox, major hassle, buy the GT720.

5Optoma was everything I was looking for
By TechyTom
When I received my projector I quickly plugged everything in and got it fired up. I was more then happy with the sharpness of the image and the quality of the video. The color is really good and the size of the unit is perfect and easy to fit in most spaces. This definitely surpassed my expectations!

1Nothing but problems
By Gwen
This is a very expensive paper weight-Literally, the second time I went to use the projector, the entire screen is irreversibly purple. After some troubleshooting, I found that the green component of the projector's VGA plug snapped. There is nothing I can do to fix this problem. This just evidences the poor manufacturing quality. Unfortunately, I purchased this while on sale in anticipation of using it in a new apartment, so the return window has expired.

5Great projector once you get the settings figured out
By Nick
I use this projector mainly for watching movies/tv on the "big screen," so it's important for me to have picture quality that compliments this. I spent a lot of time fiddling around with the projector's settings (easily changed by using the included remote), because the unit's provided settings leave something to be desired.I wanted to post these on Amazon in the hope that it would help others trying to optimize their picture quality. The biggest thing for me was the saturation of the color red. The way the unit comes wired, "red" scenes in movies are ridiculously over-saturated.Here are my settings for playing non-3d content:Reference Mode: MovieBrightness: 48 (the unit seemed way too bright to me. Good for 3d, though)Contrast: 55Color Setting: Red - Saturation: 98 Gain: 118White Intensity: 4Gamma: 1 (seemed to capture the most background detail)Also, you have to mute the audio in "audio settings" if you don't want it coming out of the projector itself (which, connected to my home theater, I don't).As far as the 3d-ready feature... it works great! I've paired the projector with the Viewsonic Vp3d1 Converter Box and they work together beautifully.Bottom line: great projector, but you definitely have to fiddle around with it to suit your own needs. I hope this was helpful!!

5Excellent Projector For The Price
By John Thesing
I've had this projector for a week and it is amazing. I spent a lot of time researching projectors that were cheap but still high quality. This projector was $431 after tax and shipping when I bought it on Bestbuy.com and it has done nothing but impress me. Here's a youtube video of what it looks like on our wall without a screen with a 91 inch diagonal image.[...]I would highly recommend this projector for anyone looking not to spend $1,000 and still get an HD projector.
