4My First Projector

On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the best)Picture Quality - 7Audio - 1 (need to hook up to a receiver, then audio is a 10)Noise the projector makes - 5Ease of use/setup - 8I purchased this projector a few months ago. I have it set up in my basement, w/ low lighting. I originally purchased the 720p model, but you were able to notice the pixels easily. I upgraded to this and you can really see the difference. Black Ops 2 on 360 is outstanding on this, I almost feel like I'm cheating due to the size of the screen. You can still see pixels when there is font on the screen (ie - loading screens), but that really is the only time you can see the pixels. Blueray movies are perfect. I have this projector hooked up via HDMI port on my Yamaha receiver and have my other devices hooked into this receiver via HDMI. I find that I need to adjust the picture once in awhile, but I think this is due to my cats hitting the cords. I purchased a ceiling mount for this, it was cheap and works great. Rather than buying a screen for this, I made a screen out of some 2x1's and white blackout cloth. Also added a black border made from the same wood w/ black felt covering it. The screen was around 110". A friend of mine ended up buying this same projector after watching mine a few times. I ended up giving him the screen and made a new screen by painting the back wall of my basement with white paint mixed with fine blasting chips (the stuff you use for sand blasting). The screen I have now is 7.5' tall by 12' wide. I must say the first screen I made seemed to reflect light more effectively. Although, I only applied about 3 layers of paint, it could use about 3 more. Anyway, I'm done rambling. I hope this helped in some way. Let me know if you have any questions. I'll do my best to answer them.

3ViewSonic PJD6243
By paul getty
Our reliable and well-used Infocus LP650 finally died and we did a thorough review of all current projectors initially settling on the ViewSonic PJD6243 due to: 1) brightness 2) price 3) HDMI 4)low ambient noise level 5) long bulb life 6) availability of an "eco" mode that did not seem to diminish overall brightness very much. Upon receiving the unit and setting it up in our conference room, we found that it was clearly louder than the old LP650 even though the advertised noise specs were more favorable. We tried the "green" eco mode to see if the fan noise would subside, but heard no appreciable difference in the volume. On the plus side, the projector was brighter and clearer and produced a larger image - but the extra noise was a deal killer for us since we also do speakerphone conference calls in the same room and the fan noise was loud enough to be picked up by our phone speakers. We know that this newer DLP technology runs hotter than the older generation stuff, so we expected some more noise as a result. This unit, with its small size, appears to require more air volume to keep it cool and the acoustic design was just not adequate to keep it quiet enough for us. We have ordered another brand (BenQ MW712) which is more expensive but with better noise specs and hope that it delivers. If you have a larger conference room or plan to use this in a noisier environment like a classroom, it would be a good choice.
